The committee is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of Memorial Garden and Columbarium. The columbarium consists of walls containing niches where people’s ashes are immured. The garden has a collection of trees, shrubs and perennials, including Washington Irving Ivy, a direct descendent of ivy grown at the author’s home, Sunnyside, and given by Irving to the Reverend Franklin Babbitt, first rector of Grace Episcopal Church. Another notable specimen is an oak tree planted in honor of victims of 9/11.
