Membership

'I’ve been coming to services at Grace Church and love it. How do I become a member?'

It’s a question that we often get. We have an informal membership process here at Grace — no cards or forms or required dues, so this can be confusing. We have pledging members of course (and we urge you to become one), and then there’s membership in the Episcopal Church (via baptism or reception), but one can be a member of Grace without necessarily fitting in either of those categories. If you consider yourself a member here, you are a member.

What is membership?

First it is a conviction of the heart and a commitment to a community of people. It provides a sense of home and belonging. It’s a way of establishing roots and encouraging growth in faith and fellowship. There is an interdependence and accountability for what we say we want and will do for ourselves and the community we hold onto. Members are expected to attend services and participate in parish activities, supporting events and participating in the leadership of our common life. Members are expected to take seriously their pledge of time, talent and treasure to the work and mission of Grace.

Grace Church offers members pastoral care, a good worship experience, supportive community  — a place to bear witness to God’s love and to experience that love in communion with others. We welcome all to find a spiritual home with us, and to explore what membership is and what it calls forth.

New Members

The New Member Ministry Commission is the welcoming hand of Grace Church to individuals who come to worship with us. Commission members greet and welcome newcomers at our services, provide follow-up to those who register as visitors, and work to connect our newest members to interest groups, ministry opportunities and active membership in the church. Twice yearly we host a brunch to introduce our newcomers — as well as those who are returning or wishing to become more involved — to the leaders of the church community.

Whether you’re interested in discovering what Grace is about, or if you are new to our community and looking to find a special place of worship, or if you would like to share your love and knowledge of our parish with someone just finding their way here, we look forward to hearing from you.
