Depolarizing Politics | Sept 25, 2024

Depolarizing Politics | Sept 25, 2024

Now that we are full-tilt into the presidential election season, the Adult Spiritual Formation Commission was wondering how we could help people rise above the seemingly irreconcilable divisions they have over candidates and issues. We discovered an organization known as Braver Angels, a bipartisan group whose purpose is to “depolarize” the political landscape and encourage honest and respectful conversation between people who may strongly disagree. Their goal is not to change people’s views of the issues, but to change their views of each other.

Braver Angels has given thoughtful presentations in schools, churches, and businesses around the country to encourage everyone, whether left or right, red or blue, to identify their own biases and look for common ground amid disagreements. On September 25, a Braver Angels representative will come to Grace and share the group’s guiding principles as well as lead discussions that may just broaden our political perspective. Specific candidates or policies will not be discussed — only a framework for conversation.

Parish Cookout | August 25th, 2024

Parish Cookout | August 25th, 2024

Come find out how we can plan for the future by looking back at the past!
Sign up on our Google form here: Preservation Project.

What is it?

Fr. Dustin will lead a discussion sharing his experience with an “existing conditions survey” done by a historic preservation architect.
The team visits a site, and carefully examines, measures and studies a building, and creates a survey of the conditions of the property in its current state.

What happens after that?

The document can become a valuable tool that churches can use to make long-term plans for buildings and how to preserve and update them for the best use of our congregation.

How do I participate?

The program includes supper and begins at 6:30 p.m. June 12 in Memorial Hall. Fr. Dustin will begin his talk promptly at 7.
Please register here and us know what you can bring to share for supper: Preservation Project.
